Andrew Doherty

I am a User Experience and Interface Specialist.

I'm a big picture thinker, I tell stories, and I solve problems in imaginative and creative ways. I'm not a fan of proposing change just for the sake of it.

I bridge the gap between business decision makers, developers, designers and users. I'm the guy who figures out the best way to solve big problems without leaving the needs of the most important stakeholders (the users) behind.

To date, the largest project I've delivered had a budget of 120 million Australian Dollars.

If I could predict the future, I believe there is much work to be done in the area of dynamic interfaces on wearable technology. I'm particularly interested in interfaces that change and morph automatically based on real word stimuli.

What do I do?

I create experiences that are memorable for the right reasons, and invisible at all other times.

I use my experience and skills as a designer and as a developer to create rapid prototypes, process flows, user journeys and user interface elements that meet user needs, resolve business requirements and can actually be implemented on time and on budget.

To be a great UX practitioner, you must have:

  1. Empathy
  2. Intuition
  3. Patience
  4. Tenacity

I create stunning & responsive interfaces

What is design? Design is resolving a 'need' that someone has (be it conscious or subconscious, direct or indirect) in a way that is planned, deliberate and beautiful.

I create rapid prototypes and accurate wireframes

Where possible, I will wireframe in HTML/CSS.

I've found that delivering exact and precise wireframes to graphic designers and developers can prevent guesswork from creeping into the implementation process. Forging strong relationships with my implementation team also prevents common miscommunications that can result in inaccurate delivery.

I create precise documents

It is often the case that once a precise and attractive document can be visualised, barriers to resolution begin to dissolve. Complex problems become easier to understand and solutions become clear.

I create beautiful user journeys

Beautiful process flows and user journeys provide the extra understanding that stakeholders may need to get closer to their end users. With this insight, stakeholders are more likely to make decisions that put the needs of their customers and users first.

I create outstanding user experiences

When I was a teenager, my careers counsellors advised me I should become a fighter pilot because there were no other jobs available that would cater to my intellect and keep me up to speed (so to speak).

Then the internet was born.

I witnessed and actively participated in the birth of the online world.
I want to give back to that world, through technology and beautiful design.
